About the event
This talk will take a look at some drivers of Earth observation applications across the government and commercial sectors, including planetary stewardship, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, services for society, and a sampling of needs from business and industry. We will look at a selection of satellite data exploitation platforms from around the world, reflecting broader trends around internet infrastructure, satellite data handling and processing, and service delivery. This will be followed by a question and answer and discussion.
Speaker BiographyThe evening will be led by George Dyke, from Symbios Communications. George has worked in the space industry since 1999, and since 2004 has worked as a consultant with the Sydney-based Symbios Communications. Symbios supports the international Earth observation community, including via policy analysis and inputs, community coordination, market and technology studies. Projects include development and maintenance of the CEOS Database (database.eohandbook.com), and providing project support to the Open Data Cube (opendatacube.org). Their domestic clients include CSIRO and Geoscience Australia, and internationally they currently work with space agencies including ESA, NASA, JAXA, USGS, and ISRO on EO coordination activities. George, Stephen Ward, and Matt Steventon from Symbios look forward to the online discussion to follow the talk including around how to build the Australian space community and on opportunities to work together.
