Flexible start

The successful applicant will be key in helping Spiral Blue develop onboard and autonomous satellite image preprocessing pipelines. This will involve:

  • Developing novel algorithms for autonomous geolocation, geometric correction, radiometric correction of satellite imagery

  • Review of background literature and testing previously developed algorithms

 

While we insist on Python for algorithmic work, we are open to adopting new geospatial tools preferred by the successful applicant. This role carries significant potential for internal promotion as the company grows. Work hours are flexible, and work from home arrangements may be made. 

The successful applicant should:

  • Be enthusiastic about space and Earth observation

  • Be an Australian citizen (no exceptions)

  • Have 1+ years relevant experience working in Earth observation, ideally with satellite image preprocessing

  • Have excellent technical, organisational, and interpersonal skills

Machine Learning Internship (Defence)

The Defence Industry Internship Program (DIIP) is an initiative of the Commonwealth Department of Defence. Students are offered an opportunity to undertake a paid 12-week internship with small to medium sized Defence Industry enterprises (SMEs) located throughout all Australian states and territories.

In this position you will be: 

  • Learning about and doing research into machine learning and Earth observation

  • Preparing Earth observation data for machine learning algorithms

  • Testing machine learning algorithms against prepared data.

You must:

  • Be studying at an Australian tertiary institution

  • Be in your 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering

An ideal candidate must demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in Python

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)

  • Enthusiasm in space, programming, and machine learning / AI

  • Involvement in extracurricular activities / side projects and an ability to work cooperatively and independently
